Episode 261: I’m Talkin. . .Investigate
I’m talking episode 261 for April 16th, 2023.
This is Joel from the I’m Talking microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.
This week, we’re talking investigate.
Investigate is not a difficult word, and in the instance that I’m using it this week, I’m really talking about to learn something, maybe even something new, to gain knowledge and know if something is fact or fiction, if it’s true, to figure something out.
And oftentimes in our given world, people are too lazy to investigate.
And I think that’s why we have influencers on social media, because those people tell us how to think and how to think about certain things and what products they want to sell us or whatever they’re getting paid to sell us or shill for us, whatever the term may be.
And even in our news, we listen to the news and we take the fact that they’ve done their investigation and that they’ve come to the truth.
And we really don’t go beyond that.
And I think there’s a problem in how we approach information in our world.
And therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.
As Christians, we’re not immune to being lazy or being much like the world when it comes to willingness to investigate.
We have preachers that we like to listen to, whether it be on a podcast or the church that we go to every Sunday.
We have books that we like to read from certain authors or websites that we like to go to based on the author’s input or what we have heard from them in the past.
But we don’t go always beyond that and investigate on our own and garner truth from God’s Word on our own and pray about it and seek His face when it comes to His Word.
You know, I was thinking that at times we even doubt what the people that we listen to are telling us, even when we trust them.
And every good preacher that I’ve ever listened to will say, don’t take me at my word.
I believe I’m saying the truth as it is presented in God’s Word.
But do your own research.
Research, investigate, find out if that is really what is being said.
Find out if that is really what the scripture means and be willing to put in that work.
As Christians, if we’re not willing to investigate, then we will not be able to live sold out for God’s glory.
However, on the flip side of that, if we will take time to investigate, if we will learn to dig into God’s Word for His truth nuggets, for the absolute truth of what is presented, and we are willing to look at reference verses and go through the Bible front to back and where is it talking about this and why is it talking about that and put in the time and investigate, then we too can live sold out for God’s glory.
