Episode 278: I’m Talkin. . .Enjoy

I’m Talkin’, episode 278, for August 13th, 2023.

This is Joel from the I’m Talkin’ microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.

This week we’re talking enjoy.

So this is my second week in a row with a word that really has no downside, and last week was victory, this week is enjoy, and enjoy is a word for all.

It doesn’t matter who you are, where you are, what you are.

The fact that we have the capacity to enjoy is uniquely human, I believe.

I think that you can get a dog to wag its tail, and you might get a cat to purr, but I think those are natural reactions of the species, and I guess they enjoy it, really depends on how much humanity you give to your pets.

But to really enjoy something takes emotion, it takes involvement, it takes human nature, it takes us to really enjoy something, and circumstances will dictate what we enjoy, there are often reasons for things that we enjoy, and it is just something that people enjoy to do, they enjoy to enjoy.

I don’t know how else to say it, but there is a challenge in that for those of us who call ourselves Christians.

If we look at the second half of the word enjoy, it is just simply joy, and I may have done a microcast on that word before, I really didn’t look it up, but the reality is that as Christians, we should be enjoying every day, every moment really, and negativity, circumstances, things that happen to us, things that happen around us, should not reduce the fact that we enjoy the life that God has provided.

God has given everything to us for our enjoyment, the positive, the negative, the unknown, the unfortunate, all of those things we get to enjoy because he is our creator.

We have a heart because of what Christ did for us that lets us enjoy everything that happens, that lets us recognize God’s sovereignty through that enjoyment.

It lets us say to the world, we are enjoying the life that God has provided us because he promised abundant life.

It is my favorite verse in John, I have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly.

You do not get that if you do not enjoy what God has given.

You do not get that if you do not enjoy all aspects of the life that you live.

When we learn to enjoy what God has provided, then and only then are we free to live to see God glorified in everything that we do.

Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talking Microcast.
