Episode 358: I’m Talkin…Standard
I’m talking episode 358 for February 23rd, 2025.
This is Joel from the I’m Talking Microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.
This week, we’re talking standard.
So this week I need to start with the definition because in standard, there’s lots of different ways the word can be used, but today I’m talking about a level of quality or attainment.
I think that pretty much is where I want to be.
And we think of that in the terms of whatever it is that we might be doing.
But in a global sense, we talk about the world standard, like according to the, this particular standard, and we might be talking about a worldview or something like that, it could be different based on where you work.
So there might be a standard of behavior or operation or expectation where you work.
It could be, um, in your family involvement, there’s a standard that’s been set.
Lots of places where level of quality or attainment are set.
And then it brings up the question about who gets to decide what the standard is.
What, what is it?
What do we have to live up to?
Who gets to decide and make that up?
And, and what happens when you don’t live up to that standard?
Lots of things that can go wrong in that situation.
And therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.
So today my verse or this week, anyway, my verses Romans 3 23, and it says for all have sinned or for everyone has sinned.
We all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
And so that’s the status of where we stand in front of a Holy God.
We all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
So in this case, the standard is set by a perfect God.
And so no one can live up to that perfection.
And so you think that there’s no way to do it.
Why even strive to do it?
But the thing is that there’s a couple of words we have to remember everyone and all, so no one lives up to it.
Everyone falls short.
We all have sinned.
We all fall short of that glorious, glorious standard, and there are no exceptions, and so that puts us in a position that is opposite of who God is.
That puts us in a position of really going against God, a position of opposition actually.
And so the question is, how do we get through that?
What is it that we can do to get through that?
And you will see in the, in the days to come in the podcast to come that there’s nothing we can do to get through that.
We go back to the verse that we talked about, um, a couple of weeks ago that says the only way to God is through Jesus Christ.
And we looked at that verse.
And so we’ll be expanding on that in the weeks to come.
But the thing you have to recognize now you have to recognize is that positionally we fall short of God’s glorious standard.
There’s nothing we can do to earn his acceptance.
There’s nothing we can do to make ourselves right with God.
It all happens through the blood of Jesus Christ until next week.
