Episode 367: I’m Talkin…Trumpet

I’m Talkin, episode 367 for April 27th, 2025.

This is Joel from the I’m Talkin microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.

This week, we’re talking trumpet.

So why the word trumpet?

Well, I’ll get to that in a little bit.

But when you think of the word trumpet, maybe the first thing that comes to mind is the instrument.

When I was in grade school and high school, I played the trumpet in the bands of both of those establishments.

And it is an instrument that I enjoy hearing, and I don’t think I was really very good at it.

But that is what probably comes to mind first.

Another thing you might think of is to announce something, like a trumpet blows to announce, you know, you kind of think of revelry or something like that.

Or you might think of someone who is blowing their own horn, like to trumpet something and to bring attention to something.

And therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.

So today’s word comes from 1 Corinthians 15, 52, where it says, it will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown.

For when the trumpet sounds, those who have died will be raised to live forever, and we who are living will also be transformed.

Sometimes when I say therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians, I have a real clear picture of what point I want to make.

Today is not one of those days.

But I think when I think of the challenge of the word trumpet when it comes to Christians is people may think we have a secret, and we really don’t, because we use the word of God to explain what we believe.

And this word of trumpet comes from the Bible.

It’s 1 Corinthians 15, 52.

The person who holds the secret to that verse is God himself, because we don’t know the time.

So in that, there’s a secret.

But the fact is, we are telling the world that this is going to happen.

And when it does, it’s not going to be secret.

It is going to be announced.

This trumpet that is going to sound is not going to be silent.

It’s not going to be quiet.

If you’ve ever heard a trumpet blown, it is something that’s hard to keep under wraps.

So it could also be a surprise.

And so the challenge for us as Christians is to be able to say that word, to be able to tell people what the trumpet’s going to mean.

What does it mean when we who are living will be transformed?

It happens in a moment, in the blink of an eye.

There will not be time for non-Christians to make a decision at that moment.

It will have passed.

And so we need to recognize that as Christians, we need to keep blowing our trumpet, which is the word of God, to keep telling people that Jesus is going to return and to keep telling people if they want to be transformed in that moment, in that blink of an eye, they also need to be children of God.

Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talking Microcast.
