Episode 376: I’m Talkin…Cling

I’m Talkin, episode 376 for June 29th, 2025.

This is Joel from the I’m Talkin microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.

This week, we’re talking cling.

So when you think of the word cling, what comes to mind?

It might be like static cling, where things coming out of the dryer kind of stick together.

It might be like that wrap, that plastic wrap or whatever that holds to the bowl that if you’re not real careful when you pull it off the roller out of the box that it all crumples together and sticks together and you have to start over again.

But the idea of cling is to attach to something.

And usually with a pretty hearty attachment, I guess, almost like suction cups, and it means kind of to hold tight.

And therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.

So today’s word comes from a scripture in Matthew 10, verse 38 and 39 that says, If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine.

If you cling to your life, you will lose it.

But if you give up your life for me, you will find it.

So I think that is the whole idea of cling.

It’s like holding tight to something.

It’s like afraid to let it go that you’ll lose it.

And then as Christians, we realize that God owns everything anyway.

But even then, it’s hard for us to let things go.

It’s hard for us to train ourselves to trust God wholly.

It’s a lifetime pursuit.

But the benefits are that if we are willing to do that with our whole life, we will find life and life abundant.

That’s what it tells us in John.

It says losing things is turning them over to Jesus, not losing them in entirety.

It means that you’re willing to give control of your life to the King of kings, the Lord of lords.

And there’s a promise that goes with that type of action and that you will find life, you will find wholeness, and you will find Jesus Christ.

Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talkin Microcast.
