Episode 377: I’m Talkin…Belong

I’m Talkin’, episode 377, for July 6th, 2025.

This is Joel from the I’m Talkin’ microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.

This week, we’re talking belong.

So I think there’s a desire in all of us to belong to something.

We want to be a part of something, to be involved in things, to not be on the sideline, not to be left out.

But we want to have that kind of sense of community where we are surrounded by people who know us and we are supposed to be there.

We belong where we are.

Not in a sense of being owned.

We don’t want to belong in that sense.

We want to belong on our own volition, to belong because we want to be there and we have a common interest with those we are with.

And therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.

So today’s word comes from 2 Corinthians 5, 17, and that verse says, So that means anyone who belongs to Christ is a new person.

The old life is gone.

A new life has begun.

So it’s right there in kind of the middle of the verse.

It says anyone who belongs to Christ.

And so in a sense, there’s an ownership there.

We are inside of who Christ is.

He owns us because we have chosen to give our lives over to him.

But that’s just the part of it.

We are also part of what God has intended for humanity.

He wants everyone to be his.

He wants no one to perish who does not believe in him.

And so even though it’s a belonging in the sense that we belong to Christ and there’s an ownership, there’s also a choice that we have made and we want to be part of that group.

We want to be part of those who are owned by Christ.

We are secure in that because Christ says he’ll never let us go.

We are wanted because we’ve already seen those verses in the past where it talks about how much God loves us.

But we are also new.

And that is the thing that we need to practice every single day.

It says the old life is gone.

A new life has begun.

So not only do we belong to Christ, but he’s given us the ability to live a new life, to be full, to be happy, to be secure, to be wanted, to be loved.

And that is what we want when we belong.

Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talking microcast.
