Episode 384: I’m Talkin…Rejoice
I’m Talkin’, episode 384 for August 24, 2025.
This is Joel from the I’m Talkin’ microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.
This week, we’re talking rejoice.
Rejoice seems like kind of an older word, maybe one that’s not used that much in today’s world, maybe by grandparents like me or people of my generation, but there are always reasons to rejoice, and they’re maybe few and far between, but it’s like, hey, we should rejoice because of something that occurred, and it’s always something positive, obviously, and the world is looking for opportunities to rejoice and express joy because of the circumstances and the reasons that they find to do that, and therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.
Today’s word comes from Philippians chapter four, verse four, that says, always be full of joy in the Lord.
Again, I say rejoice.
So what does that mean?
Well, it means that circumstances do not determine whether we rejoice or are full of joy.
The reality is that we belong to Jesus Christ who has died on the cross for us, who has saved us from our sins, who has made us righteous before a righteous God, and because of that act, he becomes the source of our joy.
So it says, always be full of joy in the Lord.
So it tells us where that joy rests.
We understand that in the world circumstances and the things that happen in the world, we may not be able to rejoice in those, but knowing who God is and knowing that God is sovereign and knowing that he’s in charge helps us to be people full of joy, and it is a command.
It doesn’t say if you feel like it.
It says, always be full of joy.
Again, I say rejoice.
And what does that mean?
Well, that means Christians aren’t sour.
They’re not down.
They’re not downcast, that they are pillars of joy and rejoicing in the world.
People will not understand that, but people will be drawn to that, and we can explain to them that it’s because of what Jesus Christ has done to us.
Circumstances don’t determine our fate.
Circumstances don’t determine our attitude.
Be full of joy in the Lord.
Again, I say rejoice.
Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talking microcast.
