Episode 385: I’m Talkin…Memorize
I’m Talkin’, episode 385 for August 31st, 2025.
This is Joel from the I’m Talkin’ microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.
This week, we’re talking memorize.
So in today’s world, I feel like songs may be the easiest thing to memorize.
It’s just words to music.
I don’t know why that is easier to remember, but then I think, you know, we also memorize poems.
Maybe if we’re actors, we memorize parts.
We try to memorize names, and some of us are better at that than others.
Maybe trying to memorize numbers that are important to us, but therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.
So the challenge for Christians is we also should be memorizing scripture.
I have been trying to do that over the past number of years, at least memorizing some portion of scripture throughout the year.
And in these past podcasts, I’ve been letting you know that this word comes from this verse, and these are verses that I have memorized.
And I’ve gone through the set that I found somewhere, and so I’m going to try to recite all of them from these past weeks, from since the beginning of the year.
You won’t know if I’m actually quoting them from memory or if I’m reading them.
So I will just tell you that I am really reading or not.
I’m really not reading them.
I am doing them from memory.
So all of these scriptures are in sections, and the first one is, who is Jesus?
And starts with Isaiah 53, 5.
But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins.
He was beaten so we could be whole.
He was whipped so we could be healed.
John 1, 14 says, so the word became human and made his home among us.
He was full of unfailing love and faithfulness, and we have seen his glory, the glory of the Father’s one and only son.
John 3, 16 says, for this is how God loved the world.
He sent his one and only son so that everyone who believes in him would not perish but have eternal life.
John 14, 6, but Jesus told him, I am the way, the truth, and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
Hebrews 12, 1 and 2.
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to this life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up, and let us run with endurance the race God has put before us.
We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith.
The next set of verses are called the Romans Road, and it starts in Romans 3, 23.
For we all have sinned, we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.
Romans 5, 12.
When Adam sinned, sin entered the world.
Adam’s sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned.
Romans 6, 23.
For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus, our Lord.
Romans 10, 9 and 10.
If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.
The next set of verses are titled God’s Authority.
Genesis 1, 1 says, In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Matthew 9, 6 through 8.
So I will prove to you that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins.
Then Jesus turned to the paralyzed man and said, Stand up, pick up your mat, and go home.
The man jumped up and went home.
Fear swept through the crowd as they saw this happen, and they praised God for giving humans such authority.
John 14, 26.
But when the Father sends the advocate as my representative, that is the Holy Spirit, he will teach you everything and remind you of everything I told you.
John 19, 11.
Jesus said, You would have no power over me at all unless it was given to you from above.
So the one who handed me over to you has the greater sin.
The next set of verses are labeled Jesus’ Return.
Matthew 25, 13.
So you too must keep watch, for you do not know the day or the hour of my return.
1 Corinthians 15, 52.
It will happen in a moment, in the blink of an eye, when the last trumpet is blown.
For at the sound of the trumpet, those who have died will be raised to live forever, and we who are living will also be transformed.
Revelations 1, 7.
Look, he comes with the clouds of heaven, and everyone will see him, even those who pierced him.
And all of the nations of the world will mourn for him.
Yes, amen.
Revelations 19, 11 through 16.
And then I saw heaven open, and a white horse was standing there.
Its rider’s name was Faithful and True, for he judges fairly and wages a righteous war.
His eyes were like flames of fire, and on his head were many crowns.
A name was written on him that no one understood except himself.
He wore a robe dipped in blood, and his title was the Word of God.
The armies of heaven, dressed in the finest of pure white linen, followed him on white horses.
From his mouth came a sharp sword to strike down the nations.
He will rule them with an iron rod.
He will release the fierce wrath of God Almighty, like juice flowing from a winepress.
On his robe, at his thigh, was written this title, King of All Kings and Lord of All Lords.
The next verses are titled Forgiveness, Psalm 103, 10 through 14.
He does not punish us for all our sins.
He does not deal harshly with us as we deserve.
For his unfailing love and faithfulness is as great as the height of the heavens above the earth.
He has removed our sins as far from us as the east is from the west.
The Lord is like a father to his children, tender and compassionate to those who fear him.
He knows how weak we are.
He remembers we are only dust.
Isaiah 118.
Come now, let’s settle this, says the Lord.
Though your sins are like scarlet, I will make them as white as snow.
Though they are red like crimson, I will make them as white as wool.
Matthew 6, 14.
If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you.
Mark 11, 25.
But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven can forgive your sins too.
The next set of verses are titled The Christian Life.
Matthew 4, 4.
But Jesus told him, No, the scriptures say, People do not live by bread alone, by every word that comes from the mouth of God.
Matthew 10, 38 and 39.
If you refuse to take up your cross and follow me, you are not worthy of being mine.
If you cling to your life, you will lose it.
But if you give up your life for me, you will find it.
2 Corinthians 5, 17.
This means that everyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person.
The old life is gone, a new life has begun.
Philippians 4, 8 and 9.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, one final thing.
Fix your thoughts on whatever is true and honorable and right and pure and lovely and admirable.
Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.
Keep putting into practice everything you learned and received from me, everything you heard from me and saw me doing.
Then the God of peace will be with you.
2 Timothy 1, 7.
God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.
The last set of verses are titled Praise.
Exodus 15, 2.
The Lord is my strength and my song.
He has given me victory.
This is my God and I will praise him.
My Father’s God and I will exalt him.
Psalm 100, 1 through 5.
Shout with joy to the Lord all the earth.
Worship him with gladness.
Come before him singing with joy.
Acknowledge that the Lord is God.
He made us and we are his.
We are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
Enter his gates with thanksgiving.
Come into his courts with praise.
Give thanks to him and praise his name.
For the Lord is good.
His unfailing love continues forever and his faithfulness continues to each generation.
Psalm 156.
Let everything that breathe sing praises to the Lord.
Praise the Lord.
Philippians 4, 4.
Always be full of joy in the Lord.
I say it again, rejoice.
So these are all the verses that I memorized and created these microcasts over the last number of weeks.
I’m not sure exactly what I’m doing going forward, but I wanted to show you and say all the scriptures that I have memorized in the first almost nine months of the year.
I hope you enjoyed this.
It was difficult, but I do enjoy memorization, so it was fun to do.
So until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talking Microcast.
