Episode 390: I’m Talkin…Guide

I’m Talkin’, episode 390, for October 5th, 2025.

This is Joel from the I’m Talkin’ microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.

This week, we’re talking guide.

There are many uses for the word guide, and I was thinking of a few of them.

Like, it might be a person, maybe a guided tour, or someone that you have as a mentor that is guiding you, maybe in life.

Sometimes it might be a person in the form of a guru or something like that.

I don’t know, do people still use gurus as guides?

Not really sure.

It might be a book that you’re using, something that guides you.

It might be instruction manuals that you would use to guide you.

Maybe you use search on the internet to guide you through something.

But it always seems to be centered around maybe self-improvement or something for us to get out of it as a person, some way for us to grow.

And it’s not bad, it just can be somewhat self-centered, and therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.

So today’s word comes from Psalm 23 again.

I’m pretty sure it’s in verse 3.

I’m going to say the first three verses, I think.

It says, The Lord is my shepherd, I have all that I need.

He lets me rest in green meadows.

He leads me beside peaceful streams.

He renews my strength.

He guides me along right paths, bringing honor to his name.

So the challenge for Christians when we think of the word guide is a sense of letting go and forgetting about ourselves and recognizing that God is in charge.

It becomes something of a non-self-reliant existence where we know that God is sovereign.

We know that he is providing a way for us.

This verse in Psalm 23 says, He guides me along right paths.

So again, it’s much like I said in the past couple podcasts, I think.

It’s the work that’s being done by God through us, through the Holy Spirit, and he has provided correct paths.

It says right paths, a way for us to go.

And why has he done that?

Well, he’s done that to bring honor to his name so we can praise him.

We can tell other people our lives are designed and guided by an omnipresent, all-powerful, all-knowing God.

And why is that important?

So that we can bring honor to him.

I guess I’m stumbling over my words a little bit, but that is the crux of the matter for us as Christians is to let God be our guide and to give honor to him as it works out.

We may go through tough times, we may go through great times, but through it all, God never disappoints.

God never lets us on our own.

He guides us along right paths to bring honor to his name.

Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talking Microcast.
