Episode 413: I’m Talkin…Measure
I’m Talkin, episode 413 for March 15th, 2026.
This is Joel from the I’m Talkin microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.
This week, we’re talking measure.
There’s a number of different ways to use the word measure.
I was thinking like you could use it to kind of take stock, like to measure something in maybe comparison.
Obviously we use measure when we’re creating, building, making something, where they say measure twice, cut once kind of thing.
Or we may be measuring one thing against another to see how that stacks up, and therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.
Today’s word comes from Romans 12, verses one through three that says, and so dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you.
Let them be a living and holy sacrifice, the kind he will find acceptable.
This is truly the way to worship him.
Don’t copy the behavior or customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.
Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.
Because of the privilege and authority I’ve been given from God, I offer each of you this warning.
Don’t think you are better than you really are.
Be honest when you examine yourself.
Measure yourself by the faith God has given us.
So this verse says there’s a standard.
It says measure yourself by the faith God has given us.
Or maybe it has something to do with the faith that we have in God.
So this is not the saving faith that says, you know, if you have faith in God, then you believe he is God’s son and died on the cross.
This is a faith relating to service and how you measure up, maybe not measure up, but measure yourself honestly against the faith he has given you.
And as you mature in your Christian walk, as you examine yourself more fully, as you try to do the things that God has asked you to do.
Earlier in the verse it says, don’t copy the behavior or customs of this world.
So as you grow in faith, you learn how to not do that.
But you have to be honest with yourself in that measure as well.
And it says that earlier in the verse.
Don’t think you are better than you are.
Be honest when you examine yourself.
It all comes from growth in our faith with Jesus Christ.
And that will help us to measure ourselves honestly and properly against the faith he has given us, not what we have earned.
Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talking Microcast.
