Episode 422: I’m Talkin…Press
I’m Talkin, episode 422 for May 17th, 2026.
This is Joel from the I’m Talkin microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.
This week, we’re talking press.
The word press in this week’s microcast is going to be the verb version of the word.
And I saw a number of definitions that I’m just going to share with you.
It says to steadily act on, to try hard, to follow through.
And I think those are good definitions of what I’m looking for when I think of the word press.
And you think of sometimes people trying maybe too hard, and they’re like pressing too hard and things aren’t going well, or maybe they don’t follow through.
And you’re like, you just got to press on, which you’ll hear more of going forward.
And then it’s just something that becomes an act that, you know, there are times where we must press on to go through things.
And that is what happens in our world.
Nothing necessarily goes smoothly.
There are always challenges.
And we learn to deal with those challenges by how we press.
And therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.
Today’s word comes from Philippians chapter 3, verses 12 through 14.
It says, I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection, but I press on to possess the perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me.
No, dear brothers and sisters, I’m not saying I have already achieved it, but I focus on this one thing, forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.
I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God through Christ Jesus is calling us.
This is a really packed verse and the emphasis of the word press.
And in this case, Paul says press on.
And as often the case is in the Bible, when it’s repeated multiple times in a short span, there’s really an emphasis on what that means to press on.
And it says forgetting what lies behind.
It’s not what is behind us that is important.
It’s what is ahead of us that is important.
And it’s that continual effort, not that we will reach perfection, but that perfection is what we are called to in Christ Jesus.
What is the goal?
Well, the goal is Christ likeness.
And because Christ is perfect, then he is calling us to be perfect.
Whether we can reach that on this earth, I don’t believe that is the case.
But then Paul says, I press on to complete this race, to receive the prize in heaven, to receive that heavenly prize for which God through Christ Jesus is calling us.
God is calling us into that perfection.
And what do we have to do?
We just have to press on.
Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talking Microcast.
