Episode 423: I’m Talkin…Willingly

I’m Talkin, episode 423, for May 24th, 2026.

This is Joel from the I’m Talkin microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.

This week, we’re talking willingly.

The definition for willingly that I found and really like, it says, consenting in a cheerful way, and so I thought that was an interesting definition.

It kind of talks about our attitude, and oftentimes, when we have to do something, even when we do it willingly, there’s a grudging attitude, and so that’s not really willingly then, it’s kind of like forced or whatever.

And sometimes it really depends on what is being done, on how we reach that.

Do we really want to do that?

Are we willingly approaching that task or that job or whatever it might be?

And therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.

Today’s verse comes from Colossians 3, verse 23 that says, work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.

So not just willingly in tasks or other things that you do, but this verse talks about work, and some people don’t like their job, I happen to like mine, but work can often be a burden, and yet this verse says that we should do it willingly.

And if willingly means with a consenting and cheerful attitude, then that means when we are at work, our focus should be to do the work that is before us.

And then it says, as though you were working for the Lord.

So that gives us a whole different perspective, a whole different reason.

And when we do that rather than for people, then we aren’t seeking the praise of people, we are seeking the will of God.

And in that seeking and in that willing work and in that great attitude, then people start to notice and they start to see us as different types of people.

And in that, we can draw people to the light of who Jesus Christ is.

So our challenge, work willingly, cheerful attitude, great focus, great effort, and that will let us shine before others because we are doing it as if for the Lord.

Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talkin microcast.
