Episode 424: I’m Talkin…Conversation

I’m Talkin’, episode 424 for May 31st, 2026.

This is Joel from the I’m Talkin’ microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.

This week, we’re talking conversation.

So I was wondering if we still have conversations, and of course we do.

You know, just sometimes we may not be very good at them, and I think part of that is because we like to talk to people and maybe not with people.

You know, so a conversation takes two people.

It takes a give and take.

It takes a back and forth, and usually about a given topic or something like that.

But you know, there are times where my wife and I sit in silence, but there are also times where we have great conversations, and we have that with our families, and we have that with our friends.

But we need to learn to talk with people and not at people, and therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.

This week’s word comes from Colossians 4, verses 5 and 6, that says, Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity.

Let your conversation be gracious and attractive, so that you will have the right response for everyone.

This week has been very challenging for me because of this verse.

When it talks about the conversation being gracious and attractive, I feel like I fail at that quite often.

And so this verse will be a challenge now, as it has been this week, it will continue to be because I will repeat this verse to myself every day from now to the end of this year.

But the verse starts with living wisely among those who are not believers.

So that means we have an opportunity.

That’s what the next sentence says, make the most of every opportunity.

So if we’re being wise in the face of the people who we interact with every day, if we are taking opportunities that are presented to us, then those opportunities become successful through the wisdom that God has given us.

And what is that?

Gracious and attractive conversation, having the right response for everyone.

And that is such a difficult thing to do on our own.

In fact, probably impossible, but through the power of the Holy Spirit, through the fact that God lives in and through us, we can take a moment, we can take a breath in the midst of a maybe tough situation and say, am I being gracious and attractive in my speech?

Is my conversation giving me an opportunity to present God to the non-believer in a wise way?

Such a great verse, such a challenging verse.

This is a verse of intention, as you know, my word is for this week, and I look forward to trying to put that into practice in my everyday life.

Gracious and attractive conversation.

Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talking Microcast.
