Episode 430: I’m Talkin…Rewarded

I’m Talkin, episode 430 for July 12th, 2026.

This is Joel from the I’m Talkin microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.

This week we’re talking rewarded.

Rewarded is a word that probably elicits some emotion as you think about times where it happened to you or maybe the desire for someone to reward you for something or some kind of performance that you did and the benefit was that you were rewarded by something.

Maybe working hard at work and you’re rewarded with a bonus or a raise or a new position.

But with it comes recognition as well and feeling good about what you have done and therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.

Today’s word comes from 2 Chronicles 15, verse 7 that says, But as for you, be strong and courageous, for your work will be rewarded.

A couple things to recognize when you’re looking at what is kind of a promise from Old Testament scripture is to make sure that you aren’t claiming something that doesn’t belong to you because there are lots of promises in the Old Testament to prophets, to nations, to people, to cities that we cannot claim in today’s world.

And this could land in that category, but it’s a very open promise.

It says, If you’re strong and courageous, your work will be rewarded.

And so what does that mean?

You think about the world’s emphasis on being rewarded and it might look different for a Christian, often does look different.

But the idea here is if we are courageous in our work for God, if we are forward thinking, if we know or let people know what Jesus Christ means to us, then there is an eternal reward for that.

And that is eternal life and being able to spend eternity in the presence of God himself.

And there may be some physical rewards on this earth.

There may be some monetary rewards on this earth for hard work that we have done.

And it kind of goes back to many of the verses that I’ve done up until this point that talks about working for the Lord rather than for people.

And so we get rewarded because as Christians, we are to work hard.

Don’t be lazy.

Work hard.

Serve the Lord enthusiastically.

Those things happen.

But the timing is not up to us.

The reward can come immediately.

The reward can be delayed.

The reward can be an eternal reward.

We don’t know when it’s going to come.

But all of the scriptures that I’ve memorized talk about being strong and courageous and behaving in such a manner that we bring glory to God.

And in the end, our reward will come in one form or another.

And we will get to accept it regardless of that timing.

And at the end of the day, we always get to spend eternity with Jesus Christ.

Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talking Microcast.
