Episode 433: I’m Talkin…Give
I’m Talking, episode 433 for August 2nd, 2026.
This is Joel from the I’m Talking microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.
This week, we’re talking give.
When we think of the word give, we maybe think of give and take, like we’re giving something in exchange for something else, or maybe there’s some conditional thing on it.
We give it of the moment, but then there’s other things that we can give.
We can give of ourselves and our talents and our time, and we can give of our other resources like money and those kinds of things as well.
But I think we often are expecting something in return for that give process, and therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.
Today’s word comes from Psalm 37, verses 3 and 4, that says, Trust in the Lord and do good.
Then you will live safely in the land and prosper.
Take delight in the Lord, and He will give you your heart’s desires.
When you hear those verses, you might think that give is a small portion of that scripture, and really it is.
Some of the issue that I have is that I’ve used prosper, I’ve used other of the maybe more major words in that set of verses, but the fact is that we see that if we take delight in who God is, that He’s going to give us our heart’s desires, and that’s kind of an alignment thing.
And, you know, it’s not that we get everything we absolutely want, but it says that we will live in the land and prosper.
It also says, you know, trust in God and do good, you know, those kind of things.
But the fact is that we are learning from a holy God how to give.
And so it’s great verses full of promise, but God is showing us as Christians what it means to give.
We have a leader that we can follow, and we see that God’s giving of things that meet the desires of our heart comes from an unconditional point of view.
It comes from a God who’s full of love, and it teaches us that we need to act in that same manner.
And when we do, I think it will fill us as well.
We will prosper, we will live well, we will be more in tune to what our heart should desire because of who God is, and other people will be drawn to Him because of that.
