Episode 440: I’m Talkin…Mighty
I’m Talking, episode 440 for September 20, 2026.
This is Joel from the I’m Talking microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.
This week we’re talking mighty.
When I first thought of the word mighty, I was thinking it’s kind of a simple word, and maybe we know what it means, but then I realized maybe we don’t.
And so I decided to look up the definition, and it says, possessing great and impressive power or strength.
And I think that’s probably what we think of when we think of the word mighty.
But maybe it’s become a little old-fashioned or maybe a little bit uncommon.
It doesn’t seem to be a word we use all that much, and when we use it, I think we’ve toned it way down from that definition.
And therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.
Today’s word comes from Zephaniah chapter 3, verse 17 that says, The Lord your God is living among you.
He is a mighty Savior.
He delights over you with gladness.
With his love, he calms all your fears.
He rejoices over you with joyful songs.
This is another great verse from the Old Testament, but the thing it says is, one, that the Lord your God lives among you.
That alone is amazing.
But then it says he is a mighty Savior, and if you look at the definition, possessing great and impressive power or strength.
This is a Savior that goes above and beyond.
The power and strength that comes from God is unmatched, and even in our current language, if we don’t use that word.
To its fullest extent, as Christians, we can use that word even beyond the definition as we read it.
It is the peak of mighty when we talk about our Savior.
But the fact is, he stays close to us.
It says he delights in us with gladness, and he rejoices over us with joyful song.
Those are cool images of how God treats his people.
He is paying attention.
He wants to be close to them.
And what it allows us to do is to live in the freedom of who he is.
Because he is a mighty Savior, we don’t have to worry.
His love calms our fears.
Because he is a mighty Savior, we don’t have to worry.
He delights in us.
Because he is a mighty Savior, we don’t have to worry.
Because he takes joy in us, all the things that we should be doing in him as well, because he is a mighty Savior.
Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talking Microcast.
Before you turn off the podcast this week, I just wanted to do a little shout out to my wife.
Today is her birthday, and we’re enjoying it with family, kids, and grandkids.
And Crystal, I love you, and have a great and happy birthday.
