Episode 442: I’m Talkin…Pray
I’m Talkin', episode 442 for October 4th, 2026.
This is Joel from the I’m Talkin' microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.
This week, we’re talking pray.
Pray feels like a very churchy word, and I’m not sure how much we use it outside of the religious circles in our normal everyday lives.
I think it’s a well-known word, and it may be, you know, kind of tossed about in a light fashion.
But many people rely on it only in times of trouble or think of it as a hope and not like a for-sure thing, but, you know, maybe this will make a difference.
But there’s no faith behind that, and therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.
Today’s word comes from Mark chapter 11, verse 24 that says, I tell you, you can pray about anything, and if you believe that you have received it, it will be yours.
This is another tough verse, and, you know, it’s interesting in the memorization of Scripture as I’ve been doing it the last few years.
Sometimes I just pick a verse like this one.
It’s a single verse.
There’s a huge context around it, but reading that verse and memorizing that verse, it almost feels like a prosperity, a prosperity gospel kind of thing.
It’s like, you know, you’ve got a piggy bank in the sky, and if you just ask for it, it’s going to be yours as long as you believe it enough.
And that’s really not the concept that we should have about who God is or the basis for why we pray.
Context of this verse is in that of faith and belief, and aligning ourselves with what we know to be true from the Word of God.
Oftentimes, when a verse is difficult, we need to compare it to what the rest of Scripture says and make sure it aligns properly.
And this says, if we pray with faith, if we pray with true belief, and if we really know that we are aligned with who God is and what He wants for our lives, we can claim the prayer as if it’s already happened.
And, you know, how do you know that you’ve done that?
How do you pray in that manner?
Well, I think you don’t always know.
Sometimes, even in the midst of a prayer that is your heart’s desire, God can still say no at the moment, and maybe forever.
There are cases of that happening in the Bible as well.
So the thing is, what does this verse mean then?
Why even put it in the Scriptures?
Well, it tells us to pray with earnestness.
It tells us to pray with faith.
It tells us to pray with belief.
And when we are aligned with God, when we know we are in His will, prayers of the Christians are powerful tools for the Christian community.
So don’t stop praying.
Keep praying.
And just because you don’t always get the answer you want, don’t think that God isn’t listening to you or you don’t understand His will for you.
Just recognize that God still wants to converse with you, and one way to do that is with us praying to Him.
Still pray, still believe, still have faith, and praise God for the times where that alignment happens, and because we believe it, it is already ours.
Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talking Microcast.
