Episode 443: I’m Talkin…Receive
I’m Talkin’, episode 443 for October 11th, 2026.
This is Joel from the I’m Talkin’ microcast, where I share my thoughts on a topic that has piqued my interest this past week.
This week we’re talking receive.
Receive is a fairly common word.
It’s a word we use probably regularly in our everyday lives, and I was thinking that it’s often a passive word that is only happening because of actions that others are doing, like giving.
So it might be a gift, it might be instruction, it might be praise, it might be criticism.
And how we receive determines how that other person reacts to what they did to us.
And therein lies the challenge for those of us who call ourselves Christians.
Today’s word comes from Luke 6, verse 38, that says, Give, and you will receive.
Your gift will return to you in full, pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, pouring into your lap.
The amount you give will determine the amount you receive.
What a great verse.
It really talks about in order to get something, you need to give something.
And it also talks about the fact that whatever it is that you give will return to you in full.
So it will be better than what you ended up giving.
And their condition at the end of it that says, What you give or the amount you give determines what you get back.
So the reality is, in this verse, it’s saying you as a Christian cannot outgive God.
Put yourself out there in the world, in your Christian community, in service, whatever it is that you’re doing, and be a giving person.
And you will recognize in doing that that you get blessings back from God.
It may not look exactly the same as what you give, but it will be better than what you gave.
It will fill your life more.
You know, my wife often says that it’s much more fun to give gifts than to get gifts because you get to see the reaction of other people.
And so it’s a fulfilling thing when you give as a Christian.
And then what God says in this verse is, Do you have faith?
Do you trust me enough that in reality, what you give determines what you get back, overflowing and pouring into your lap.
Until next week, this is Joel from the I’m Talkin’ microcast.
